The first topic I looked into was mermaids. I come from a family of Disney lovers, and “Little Mermaid” has always been a personal favorite. Other than the “Little Mermaid”, I feel that Mermaids are always protryed in a negative light being mean and not liking humans. In the book The English Fairy Book by Ernest Rhys with illustration by Fredrick C. Witney there are many different fairy tales stories. In the story The Old Man and the Mermaid, I was surprised to find that the story was positive about Mermaids. This story gives a different light on how Mermaids interacted with humans. I assumed most of the stories about Mermaids would focus on them be Sirens luring sailors to their death. In this story, the Mermaid even talks about being married to a Merman and having children. The Merman is very cruel and if the Mermaid does not get back in time to her husband he might eat their children for dinner.
The second topic I looked into was Greek Mythology, specifically Poseidon. I really enjoyed the Percy Jackson series, where Poseidon is the father of the main character. I already knew that Poseidon is the ruler over the seas and oceans but I know little about specific tales of his life. From research of Poseidon there are many different tales, like defeating the Titans with his brothers, how he got his trident, and there is even a family tree that shows that Triton is the son of Poseidon and Amphitrite. This correlates to the “Little Mermaid” whose father is King Triton of the seas. I could possible combine the mermaid topic into Poseidon.
Keeping with the theme of water the third topic I looked into was Blackbeard the Pirate. I have never been interested in pirates and other then the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies (which I haven’t even seen all of them) I do not know very much about pirate life. Reading through the site Blackbeard’s Realm, I was surprised to learn that Blackbeard had a very short pirating career. Despite the fact he was only a pirate for a short time, I am sure he could have come into contact with some Mermaids. Or Blackbeard could even have married a Mermaid since it was thought that he had over fourteen wives during his lifetime.

The last topic I looked into was vampires. There are so many books, TV series, and movies that revolve around vampries. While trying to find information on legendary creatures I came across vampires. I was having trouble finding stories over vampires that I could read but I was able to find a story called, The Vampyre. What intrigued me about this story is that it started the genre for a romantic vampire having to fight his urges to not drink the blood of the women he loves. I would like to find some more stories over this topic, to help get some more information of legends of vampires.
